PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
