19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children together, so to win a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, comprising in that event earlier this year.

His defensive play style and frequent reactions on court had led some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional victory, took control to create a third set.

The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
